Tomb of King Abi Shemou

a hidden gem in byblos

Who hasn't heard of Byblos? It's one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities! And who in Lebanon hasn't explored the Byblos Crusader Castle? Me! I was one, until April 2023.

Byblos, a place I'd visited before, but for some inexplicable reason, I'd never delved into the wonders of the Crusader castle or explored the Phoenician ruins. The thought never even crossed my mind! So, when a spark of curiosity finally lit up, and I decided to explore these historical treasures, I knew it was going to be an exhilarating adventure.

I began by reading about the citadel on Wikipedia, but it didn't take long for me to recognize the need for a seasoned guide to unravel the intricate layers of history and culture hidden within these ancient sites. And fortunately, luck was on our side!

That's when we had the pleasure of meeting Hyame, an official tour guide in Byblos. What caught my attention was her name, Hyame, which happens to be my mom's name. It was then I knew we were about to create an incredible video.

Hyame provided us with a fascinating A-Z tour of Byblos, making the history come alive. If you ever find yourself there, I highly recommend requesting her as your guide!

When you make your visit, be sure not to miss the remarkable Tomb of King Abi Shemou. Follow the path down through the tunnel, and you'll encounter two intriguing chambers. One houses the sarcophagus of King Abi Shemou, and the other serves as the final resting place for the son of this distinguished monarch. It's a remarkable discovery within the depths of history.
